When you see the name Finland, you don't immediately think of "that dull little nation in Scandinavia" anymore. Now it is more along the lines of "that breath-taking northern country that produces excellent dark and beautiful music".
End of You was created in 2003, hailing from Helsinki, Finland. Their first album Unreal(2005) instantly gabbed them some attention within the Gothic rock scene and a few well known music sites. Three years later, Mimesis is released, and while this album does not stand out anymore than their first, it is a solid dark rock album.
Better God makes for a great opener, setting up the listener for a seductive, sad but thrilling Gothic experience with the infectious chorus. Next in line is the album single You Deserve More, which starts out with melodies you would hear from a childhood jewellery box, then without warning becomes a full-blown addictive rock song. Another stand out track is the cover Goldeneye, making it obvious their music would fit in perfectly with any James Bond movie(especially if directed by Tim Burton).
The album loses a little momentum halfway through but makes up for it quickly with rave-like Number 8. In Elegance (Closure) is an interesting ending to this Gotic roller coaster ride, using an almost folk-like arrangement, with some classical elements thrown in there as well.
All in all, I would say Mimesis is worth the money, and listen. While you're at it, pick up Unreal too. End of You can only go up from here.
